Yard 4, Stricklandgate - LA9 4ND
Upstairs this sophisticated bar offers a world wide range of beers, wines and spirits. A recent refurbishment has made it a classy place to drink and dance! Ruskins also offers an exciting food menu using locally-sourced and organic produce wherever possible. Their bar featured 3 lagers, Guinness and Caffrey’s on tap, 3 ales and 2 ciders.
24 Finkle Street - LA9 4AB
One of Cumbria’s finest live music venues. Dark and atmospheric with a really good club feel to it. They have a great selection of ales including Hawkshead Bitter, Watermill (Ings) Collie Wobbles and Hobgoblin. Why not pop up to the gallery to watch the dances from above?
Burgundy’s Wine Bar
19 Lowther Street - LA9 4DH
You’re assured of a warm welcome. The extensive cellar stocks real ales, Belgian beers, boutique beers, cocktails, unusual spirits, quality wines & Champagne and liqueurs. On our most recent visit there were 13 ales, lagers and stouts on offer. The recently installed microbrewery produces new and fresh beers every week and the competition will be staged right by it. Their kitchen serves freshly made food and snacks, from light tapas style dishes to soup and sandwiches.
14 Highgate - LA9 4SX
Due to The Bridge closing down, without any warning, we've had to upgrade The Fleece from a warmup pub to a competition pub. Unfortunately the programmes have been printed, so please don't go to The Bridge, head for The Fleece.
It's the oldest pub in Kendal, reputedly built in 1654, and is one of the last few timber framed buildings left in the town, with a lovely timber floor and local beer.
The Factory Tap
5 Aynam Road - LA9 7DE
This is the tap house of Bowness Bay Brewery. It’s the place that claims you’ll find the most rewarding new hand-crafted beers around. The place to relax and be refreshed with old friends and new. No slots machines, no jukeboxes and no gimmicks – just genuine hospitality and very, very real beer. We should also mention the quality wines. Landlord Les is looking forward to welcoming DERT. Please note, this venue is cash only.
Extra warm-up pub
32 Highgate - LA9 4XS
Another old pub, this one is called The Rainbow and some of you may be staying here. They also sell beer and have a floor!
The Crook Challenge and additional dance spots
Westmorland Shopping Centre - The Crook Challenge!
Off the Market Place - LA9 4LR
Crook's normal dance outs see us attract an audience and entertain them sufficiently that they willingly give us money. No crashing a pub to an existing audience. So how will you cope in our world? Each year we donate half of our collections to the Great North Air Ambulance.
So we'd like each team to arrive in the central atrium, gather a crowd, wow them and them collect from them. Each collection will be kept separate and counted. The team that collects the most will win our unique trophy! All the money collected will be donated by the end of April.
Top of Finkle Street
If the weather's fine and you have a bit of time to kill, the Birdcage (really a band stand) near Ruskins, is a good spot to entertain passers-by.
The George & Dragon
42 Branthwaite Brow - LA9 4TX
A pub with mostly carpet but some wooden floor in front of the bar, just enough for a skilled team to dance on.
